Who can get certified as an Open Water diver?Anyone who is at least 10 years old, in good health, and able to swim is eligible to get SCUBA certified. Before your pool sessions, you'll complete a medical questionnaire.
-
What are the steps to getting certified? After you register, we will send you a medical questionnaire to complete. Then, we'll set up your NAUI account and e-learning. You'll complete the e-learning at home before we meet for class. When we meet for class, we'll review academic topics and teach you SCUBA skills in the pool. After you complete your academics and pool sessions, you will be eligible to complete a check-out dive. You can either choose to schedule your check-out dives through SELA Aquatics, or we can provide a referral letter for you to complete your certification on your own trip. If you are completing your certification on a non-SELA trip using the referral form, there is a $50 fee for the referral form.
-
What equipment is provided for the pool sessions? We provide tanks, weights, regulators, and BCD's for you to use in the pool. You will need to provide the personal items, including dive fins, mask, and snorkel. We offer these items for purchase.
-
What if I need more time to practice than the scheduled class time?We want you to feel comfortable before you go on your checkout dive! If you need more practice time beyond your class time, we can arrange extra practice with an instructor.
-
How do I receive my equipment? When you purchase your equipment on our website, you can select whether to pick it up from our Baton Rouge or New Orleans location. If you are taking a class with us, we'll have your purchased equipment for you at class.
-
How do I order equipment not listed on the website? We are a dealer for Genesis/Sherwood and can order other items from them. If there's something you're interested in, let us know!
